Screen-fabric roller blinds in an office meeting room

What we deliver

Education projects need more than a fabric colour. Safety, glare, durability, cleaning, room use and blackout requirements all shape the specification, and the project's own employer's requirements often set specific expectations for blinds and curtains. We survey, specify, supply and install blinds and curtains for schools, colleges and other education buildings, for new-build, refurbishment and replacement work.

Working to the project's requirements

Public-sector and education projects frequently include technical requirements for blinds and curtains, such as fire performance of fabrics, safety of operating systems and fabric suited to areas near sinks. These requirements vary by project, funder and date, so we always work from the current specification or employer's requirements for the job rather than a general assumption. FR fabric options are available on selected contract ranges, and certificates are supplied for the specified fabric.

Typical room requirements

  • Classrooms — glare control for whiteboards and screens while keeping good daylight.
  • ICT suites — screen glare, often with a darker screen fabric.
  • Halls, drama and studios — dim-out or blackout where the room use requires it.
  • Science labs — safety-led operation and any specific blackout needs.
  • Offices and staff rooms — privacy and glare.
  • Wet or messy areas — wipe-clean or moisture-suitable materials where fabric allows.
  • High-level windows — motorised operation where manual control is impractical.

Strong solutions

Roller blinds are the most common classroom choice, using screen fabrics for glare or dim-out and blackout fabrics for rooms that need it. Vertical blinds suit wide banks of windows and are straightforward to maintain; rigid PVC louvres are available on selected ranges where wipe-clean durability matters. Motorised blinds remove cords entirely and help with high-level glazing. Halls and performance spaces may suit curtains on commercial tracks where the specification allows. Our solar, glare and blackout page explains how these goals differ.

Safety

Internal blinds must meet UK child-safety requirements, and we fit the required safety devices. In schools we favour systems that are inherently safer by design — cordless, spring, crank or motorised operation — and we check every proposal against the project's current safety requirements.

What we need from you

  • Floor plans or window schedules, with room names or numbers
  • The specification or employer's requirements for blinds and curtains
  • Which rooms need blackout, dim-out or glare control
  • Access windows — term time, holidays, weekends
  • Any site rules for working in or near an occupied school

Documentation and handover

For each proposed product we can provide the fabric certificate for the specified fabric, product and control details, care and cleaning guidance and manufacturer documentation where relevant. Installation is planned around the school calendar, often in holiday periods. At handover, staff receive simple operating and care guidance, and our maintenance service can handle later repairs or replacements.

Questions we get asked

Can you supply fire-retardant fabrics for schools?

FR fabric options are available on selected contract ranges, and certificates are supplied for the specified fabric. We check the fabric against the requirements in your project specification.

Can you fit blinds during the school holidays?

Yes. Installation in education buildings is usually planned around term dates, and we agree the programme and access arrangements in advance.

Can a school hall be made completely dark?

Blackout fabrics block light through the fabric, but light can still enter around the edges. For rooms needing a darker result, side channels, cassettes or well-overlapped curtains can reduce light gaps. We will explain what is realistic for each window.

Which blinds are safest for classrooms?

Systems without loose cords — such as spring, crank, cordless or motorised operation — are generally the safest choice. All internal blinds we supply meet UK child-safety requirements, with required safety devices fitted.
