Day & Night Blinds

Why people choose them

  • A distinctive, contemporary appearance
  • Adjustable screening without lifting the blind
  • A softer look than metal or timber slats
  • Colours and textures depend on the range
  • Suitable systems may be motorised

Daytime and night-time privacy are different

When a room is lit from inside after dark, the sheer bands can allow more visibility than they do during the day. We make sure you understand how your chosen fabric behaves when fully closed.

A note on blackout

Day & Night blinds are not a total blackout product. Where maximum darkness matters, a specialist blackout system is the better choice.

How they work

The fabric runs as a continuous loop with alternating sheer and more opaque bands, front and back. Moving the blind slides the two layers across each other: line the sheer bands up for a filtered view, or offset them so the solid bands overlap for more privacy. Raise the blind fully to clear the window.

Made to measure and fitting

Day & Night blinds can be recess-fitted, face-fixed, or supplied in a Perfect Fit frame on compatible windows, which also reduces gaps at the edges. We check the window and show you how your chosen fabric behaves when closed at a free home survey.

Honest suitability

Is it right for your window?

Every recommendation comes with a reason. Where something else would serve you better, we say so — and suggest what to consider instead.

Where this works well

  • Living rooms Recommended

Adjustable screening through the day without raising the blind, with a soft, contemporary look.

  • Street-facing windows by day

Offsetting the bands screens passers-by while daylight still comes through.

Worth knowing: After dark, with lights on inside, the sheer bands let more be seen. Close the blind fully at night.

  • Kitchens and dining rooms

Filters bright light while keeping a view out.

  • Home offices

Softens glare on a screen without shutting out daylight.

Where we’d suggest something else

  • Nurseries and rooms that must be dark

Why: Day & Night blinds are a screening product, not a blackout one.

The limitation: Light passes through the sheer bands and around the edges.

    Consider instead: Blackout blinds

  • Maximum privacy after dark

Why: With the room lit, the sheer bands can allow more visibility than in daylight.

Consider instead: Shutters or a solid-fabric blind

Fabrics and finishes

Fabrics range from soft textures and weaves to jacquards, with sheer voile bands alternating with more opaque bands. Colours run from whites and neutrals through greys to darker tones, depending on the range.

The width of the bands and how opaque the solid bands are both change the look and the privacy you get, so we bring samples to compare in your room.

Controls

Day & Night blinds are usually operated with a chain, fitted with the required safety device. Selected systems can be motorised, with rechargeable or mains power depending on the system.

Perfect Fit versions are available for compatible windows and doors. We confirm the options for your window at the survey.

Child safety

Internal blinds supplied in the UK must meet child-safety requirements, and every blind we fit is supplied with the safety devices those requirements call for, fitted at the correct height.

Where a chain is used, the safety device is fixed at the correct height so the chain is held taut. Motorised systems on selected ranges remove the chain altogether, and Perfect Fit frames keep the blind close to the glass on compatible windows.

Whatever the control, keep cots, beds and climbable furniture away from the window. See our guide to choosing safe blinds for family homes.

Compared with the alternatives

Venetian blinds

Precise slat-angle control over the direction of light, with a wipeable aluminium finish.

Roller blinds

Simpler, full coverage from a single fabric, including blackout and screen fabrics.

Shutters

Solid louvres give architectural privacy that holds up better after dark.

Questions we get asked

Can people see in at night?

Possibly, through the sheer bands, when your lights are on. Closing the blind so the opaque bands overlap gives the most privacy.

Can Day & Night blinds be motorised?

Suitable systems may be motorised. We confirm what is available for your window.

Are they good for a bedroom?

They work well where privacy and a softer look matter more than full darkness. For sleep-critical rooms, compare a blackout option.

Can I have a Day & Night blind without drilling?

Yes, on compatible windows and doors, as a Perfect Fit blind that clips to the glazing bead. We check compatibility at the survey.
