Faux Wood Blinds

Why people choose them

  • Adjustable privacy and light
  • Moisture-resistant options
  • Wipe-clean surfaces
  • A strong candidate for bathrooms and kitchens
  • Consistent, even finishes

The trade-off

Faux wood can be heavier than real wood, so large windows need correct specification. Moisture resistance alone does not make every size practical.

Suitable ranges can work well in humid rooms, but the actual temperature, width and moisture limits of the chosen product take priority over general guidance. We confirm this at the survey.

How they are made

Faux wood slats are made from manufactured materials with a wood-style finish, strung on ladder cords or tapes from a headrail. They tilt and raise in the same way as a real wood blind.

Light and privacy

Tilt the slats to screen views while letting daylight in, or close them for privacy. As with any slatted blind, closed slats reduce light but do not create blackout.

Made to measure and fitting

Because faux wood is heavier than timber, window size matters more. On larger windows we may suggest splitting the width into more than one blind so each stays easy to operate. We check the window, room and product together at a free home survey.

Honest suitability

Is it right for your window?

Every recommendation comes with a reason. Where something else would serve you better, we say so — and suggest what to consider instead.

Where this works well

  • Kitchens Recommended

Wipe-clean slats cope with everyday cooking residue, with adjustable privacy over a sink or worktop.

  • Bathrooms

Selected ranges are designed for humid rooms and give adjustable privacy.

Worth knowing: We check the specific range against the room. Avoid positions in direct shower spray.

  • Utility rooms and cloakrooms

A practical, hard-wearing finish for busy, functional spaces.

  • Busy family rooms

A consistent, durable finish that is easy to keep clean.

  • Large windows With conditions

Gives a wood look across wider windows.

Worth knowing: Faux wood is heavier than timber, so large windows may need splitting into more than one blind. Confirmed at survey.

Where we’d suggest something else

  • When genuine timber matters

Why: The finish is consistent and manufactured rather than natural grain.

The limitation: It will not show the variation of real wood.

    Consider instead: Wooden blinds

  • Bedrooms that must be dark

Why: Light passes between closed slats and around the edges.

The limitation: Slatted blinds cannot give blackout.

    Consider instead: Blackout blinds

Fabrics and finishes

Manufactured faux wood slats with a consistent, even finish, in whites, neutrals and wood-effect tones depending on the range. The surface wipes clean, which is why faux wood is popular in kitchens and bathrooms.

Selected ranges are designed for practical, harder-working rooms. The moisture tolerance of the specific range, not the category as a whole, decides whether it suits your room, and we confirm that at the survey.

Controls

Faux wood blinds normally use a tilt control for the slats and lift cords to raise the blind, fitted with the required safety devices.

Motorised options are available on selected ranges, which can suit high or hard-to-reach windows. Larger blinds are heavier to lift by hand, which we take into account when specifying the size and control.

Child safety

Internal blinds supplied in the UK must meet child-safety requirements, and every blind we fit is supplied with the safety devices those requirements call for, fitted at the correct height.

Like all slatted blinds, faux wood blinds use lift and ladder cords, so cord cleats or tensioners are fitted at the correct height and no loops are left within reach. In a child's room, consider a motorised option on a selected range or a cordless blind type instead.

Whatever the control, keep cots, beds and climbable furniture away from the window. See our guide to choosing safe blinds for family homes.

Compared with the alternatives

Wooden blinds

Genuine timber with natural grain, and usually lighter to lift. Not our choice for steamy rooms.

Venetian blinds

Slimmer aluminium slats with a smaller stack and a more contemporary look.

Shutters

A fitted louvred treatment; faux-wood shutters are also a strong option for kitchens and bathrooms.

Roller blinds

Moisture-suitable fabrics with a very compact roll, but no adjustable privacy setting.

Questions we get asked

Are faux wood blinds blackout?

No. Closed slats reduce light, but gaps remain.

Are they suitable for a bathroom?

Suitable ranges are a good bathroom candidate. We check the specific product against the room at your survey.

Will they look like real wood?

They give a wood-style appearance with a more consistent finish. If genuine timber matters to you, compare them side by side in our showroom or at home.

Can faux wood blinds be motorised?

Motorised options are available on selected ranges. We confirm what suits your window size at the survey.
