No Drill Shutters

How no-drill shutters work

No-drill shutters are a slim, frame-fitted shutter system designed for compatible inward-opening windows and doors. Instead of fixing a separate shutter frame into the wall or recess, the system attaches to the window frame itself, so there is no drilling into plaster, tiles or reveals.

Because the shutter is part of the opening sash or door, it moves with it. You can open the window or door with the shutter in place, and tilt the louvres whenever you like.

Light and privacy

The louvres tilt to adjust light and privacy in the same way as a traditional shutter. Closed, they cut out much of the light, but no-drill shutters are not a blackout product.

Materials

The no-drill system we supply uses a moisture-tolerant construction, which makes it a practical choice for kitchens and bathrooms as well as living spaces. Colours and louvre options are specific to the system and we show you them at the survey.

The window

Compatibility is essential. This is not a universal shutter. We check the frame type, the glazing bead, the seals, the handles, the clearances and the way the window or door opens. It is designed for compatible inward-opening windows and doors, and compatibility is always confirmed at the survey.

No-drill shutters are related to traditional shutters but are a different product. A traditional shutter has its own substantial frame fitted around or within the opening and gives a more architectural result. A no-drill shutter sits much closer to the glass and has a slimmer, neater profile. If you want the fuller look of a framed shutter, compare full height shutters.

Made to measure and fitting

Each shutter is made to the measurements of the individual sash or door panel. Our fitters install the shutters onto the frame, check that the window or door still opens and locks properly and show you how the louvres work. Honest suitability

Is it right for your window?

Every recommendation comes with a reason. Where something else would serve you better, we say so — and suggest what to consider instead.

Where this works well

  • Compatible inward-opening windows Recommended

The shutter fits to the frame and moves with the sash, with no drilling into the wall.

Worth knowing: Compatibility is confirmed at the survey.

  • Homes where drilling is unwelcome

Nothing is fixed into plaster, tiles or reveals.

Worth knowing: Only where the frames are compatible.

  • Kitchens and bathrooms

The system uses a moisture-tolerant construction.

  • Inward-opening doors With conditions

The shutter can move with the door.

Worth knowing: Handles, clearances and the door frame must be checked for compatibility.

Where we’d suggest something else

  • Outward-opening windows

Why: The system is designed for compatible inward-opening frames.

The limitation: Not designed for outward-opening sashes.

    Consider instead: Perfect Fit blinds

  • Frames without a compatible bead

Why: The system relies on a compatible frame to attach to.

The limitation: Cannot be fitted without the right frame.

    Consider instead: Full height shutters

Materials and finishes

A frame-fitted system

No-drill shutters use a slim, moisture-tolerant construction designed to attach to compatible window and door frames. They suit kitchens and bathrooms as well as living rooms and bedrooms.

Colours and louvres

Colour and louvre options are specific to the system and are more limited than for traditional framed shutters. We bring samples to the survey.

Operation and hardware

Tilting the louvres

The louvres are tilted by hand to adjust light and privacy.

Moving with the window

Because the shutter is fitted to the opening sash or door, it opens and closes with it. There is no separate panel to fold back.

Child safety

No-drill shutters are operated by hand and have no cords or chains, so there are no looped cords to manage.

Compared with the alternatives

Full height shutters

A traditional framed shutter gives a more substantial, architectural result and works on almost any window type, but it is fixed into the recess or wall.

Perfect Fit blinds

Frame-fitted blinds for compatible uPVC windows, with pleated, Venetian and other options.

French door shutters

Questions we get asked

Will no-drill shutters fit my windows?

They are designed for compatible inward-opening windows and doors. We check the frame, bead, seals and handles at the survey to confirm.

Do they move with the window?

Yes. The shutter is fitted to the opening sash or door, so it opens with it.

Are no-drill shutters as substantial as traditional shutters?

No, they are slimmer and sit closer to the glass. If you want a more architectural result, compare full height shutters.

Can they go in a bathroom?

The system uses a moisture-tolerant construction, so they can suit bathrooms and kitchens where the window is compatible.
