Venetian Blinds

Where they work best

Home offices, kitchens, utility rooms, suitable bathrooms, smaller windows and contemporary interiors.

Why people choose them

  • Compact slats with a small stack
  • Precise control over the direction of light
  • Adjustable privacy
  • Wipeable surface
  • A broad choice of colours and finishes, depending on the range

How they are made

Slim aluminium slats hang on ladder cords from a compact headrail. Turning the tilt control angles every slat together, and lift cords raise the blind into a small stack at the top of the window.

Light and privacy

Venetians give very precise control over where light goes: angle the slats upward to bounce daylight onto the ceiling and cut glare on a screen, or close them for privacy. Closed slats reduce light strongly, but a Venetian is not a blackout blind.

Moisture

Aluminium slats are wipeable and suit many kitchens and bathrooms. We confirm the right range for your room at the survey and avoid positions in direct spray.

Made to measure and fitting

Venetians can sit inside a shallow recess where deeper blinds will not fit. On compatible modern windows, frame-fitted versions are available on selected systems and slat sizes, fixed to the window without drilling. We check the frame and glazing bead at a free home survey.

Honest suitability

Is it right for your window?

Every recommendation comes with a reason. Where something else would serve you better, we say so — and suggest what to consider instead.

Where this works well

  • Home offices Recommended

Tilting the slats cuts screen glare while keeping daylight in the room.

  • Kitchens

Wipeable aluminium slats and a compact stack above a sink or worktop.

  • Bathrooms With conditions

Aluminium slats are wipeable and give adjustable privacy.

Worth knowing: Suitability depends on the range and position. We avoid direct shower spray and confirm at survey.

  • Small windows and shallow recesses

Slim slats and a small headrail fit where deeper blinds will not.

  • Modern windows without drilling With conditions

Frame-fitted Venetians are available on selected systems and slat sizes.

Worth knowing: Depends on the glazing bead and frame, checked at survey.

Where we’d suggest something else

  • Bedrooms that must be dark

Why: Light passes between closed slats and around the edges.

The limitation: Slatted blinds cannot give blackout.

    Consider instead: Blackout blinds

  • Wide patio and sliding doors

Why: A wide horizontal blind has to be raised fully to use the door.

The limitation: Large Venetians are also heavier to lift.

    Consider instead: Vertical blinds

  • Rooms wanting a soft, fabric look

Why: Metal slats give a crisp, contemporary finish rather than softness.

    Consider instead: Roman blinds

Fabrics and finishes

Aluminium slats in a broad choice of colours and finishes, from whites and neutrals to metallic and darker contemporary tones, depending on the range. Several slat widths are available: narrower slats suit smaller windows and frame-fitted systems, while wider slats give a bolder look.

The surface is easy to wipe clean. For real or faux wood slats, see our wooden and faux wood blinds.

Controls

A tilt control angles the slats and lift cords raise and lower the blind, with the required safety devices fitted. Frame-fitted Venetians on selected systems are manually operated and stay with the opening window or door.

We plan the control position around handles, worktops and furniture at the survey.

Child safety

Internal blinds supplied in the UK must meet child-safety requirements, and every blind we fit is supplied with the safety devices those requirements call for, fitted at the correct height.

Venetian blinds have lift and ladder cords, so we fit cord safety devices at the correct height and leave no loops within reach. Frame-fitted versions on compatible windows keep the blind close to the glass. In a child's room, compare a cordless blind type.

Whatever the control, keep cots, beds and climbable furniture away from the window. See our guide to choosing safe blinds for family homes.

Compared with the alternatives

Wooden blinds

Natural timber slats for more warmth and a heavier, richer look. Not for steamy rooms.

Faux wood blinds

A thicker wood-style slat with moisture-resistant options, and a larger stack.

Roller blinds

An uninterrupted fabric surface, with blackout and screen fabrics, but no slat-angle control.

Shutters

A fitted, louvred architectural treatment for a longer-term change to the window.

Questions we get asked

Are Venetian blinds blackout?

No. They give strong light control, but that is not the same as total blackout.

Are they good for a home office?

Often, yes. Tilting the slats lets you cut screen glare while keeping daylight in the room.

Can they go in a kitchen or bathroom?

Aluminium slats are wipeable and suit many kitchens and bathrooms. We confirm suitability for your room at the survey.

Can I have a Venetian blind without drilling?

On compatible modern windows, frame-fitted Venetians are available on selected systems and slat sizes. We check your frames at the survey.
