Tilt & Turn Window Blinds

Tilt-and-turn windows open inwards, either tilting at the top or swinging open like a door. A blind has to let the window do both, which is why frame-fitted blinds that move with the sash are usually the first thing we look at.

Tilt & Turn Window Blinds

Why ordinary blinds can clash

A blind fixed in the recess or above the window sits exactly where an inward-opening sash wants to swing. Unless it is raised fully every time, the window catches it. Handles on tilt-and-turn windows also sit on the room side of the sash, often close to the glass, and need space to turn.

Blinds that move with the sash

Frame-fitted blinds solve both problems. Perfect Fit blinds sit in a slim frame fixed behind the glazing bead, and FITtoFRAME blinds fit with beading brackets or adhesive. In both cases the blind is attached to the sash itself, so it tilts and turns with the window and there is no drilling on compatible frames. Pleated, cellular, roller and Venetian formats are available depending on the system.

Handle clearance

The most important check is the handle. We measure how far it projects and how close it is to the glass, because the blind must sit between the glass and the handle without catching. On most modern uPVC and aluminium tilt-and-turn windows this works, but not on every frame.

Other options

  • A blind face-fixed high above the window, clear of the opening sash, where there is space
  • A roller or Roman blind on a window that is rarely opened fully
  • Shutters on a frame that allows the window to open behind them
  • Curtains on a track that can be drawn clear of the window

What we check

Bead depth and profile, handle projection, how the window opens, the frame material and the size of the pane. Compatibility is confirmed at the survey.

Honest suitability

Is it right for your window?

Every recommendation comes with a reason. Where something else would serve you better, we say so — and suggest what to consider instead.

Where this works well

  • Modern uPVC and aluminium tilt-and-turn windows Recommended

A frame-fitted blind moves with the sash and needs no drilling on compatible frames.

  • Windows opened every day Recommended

The blind never has to be raised before the window is opened.

  • Handles very close to the glass Specialist survey

Most handles leave enough space for a frame-fitted blind.

Worth knowing: Where the handle is very close to the glass, a frame-fitted blind may not fit; we measure every window.

  • Windows rarely opened fully

A recess or face-fitted blind can work if you raise it before opening.

Worth knowing: You must remember to raise the blind first.

Where we’d suggest something else

  • Recess blinds on windows opened daily

Why: The inward-opening sash catches a blind hanging in the recess.

The limitation: It must be fully raised every time.

    Consider instead: Perfect Fit blinds

  • Older timber tilt-and-turn frames

Why: Bead profiles on some timber frames do not suit bead-fitted systems.

The limitation: Compatibility is less predictable; we check before ruling anything in or out.

    Consider instead: No drill blinds

Fabrics and finishes

Pleated and cellular fabrics, roller fabrics including blackout and light-filtering options, and aluminium or wood-look Venetian slats, depending on the system. Frame and fitting colours can be chosen to match white, grey and anthracite window frames on systems that offer them.

Controls

Pleated and cellular blinds are moved by hand, Venetian blinds use a tilt control, and roller blinds usually use a secured chain. Motorised operation is available on selected frame-fitted systems; FITtoFRAME is manual.

Child safety

Internal blinds supplied in the UK must meet child-safety requirements, following BBSA guidance, and the blinds we fit are supplied with the required safety devices.

Frame-fitted pleated and cellular blinds have no hanging cord. Roller chains on frame-fitted blinds are secured with the required safety device.

Compared with the alternatives

Perfect Fit blinds

A slim frame fixed behind the glazing bead; available with roller, pleated, cellular and Venetian blinds, and motorised on selected options.

FITtoFRAME blinds

Fitted with beading brackets or adhesive, with no surrounding frame. Manual only.

No drill blinds

An overview of every frame-fitted approach.

No-drill shutters

A frame-fitted shutter option for some inward-opening windows.

Questions we get asked

Will a blind stop my tilt-and-turn window opening?

Not if it is fitted to the sash. Frame-fitted blinds move with the window when it tilts or turns.

Do tilt-and-turn blinds need drilling?

Frame-fitted systems need no drilling on compatible frames.

What if my handle is very close to the glass?

We measure the handle projection at the survey. If a frame-fitted blind will not clear it, we suggest another option.

Can tilt-and-turn blinds be motorised?

On selected frame-fitted systems. FITtoFRAME is manual.
