Blinds, Shutters & Curtains in Fulbourn

Fulbourn's village design guide describes an older village character alongside residential estates built since the 1960s. We tailor blinds, shutters and curtains to whichever kind of home you have.

Roller blinds in an open-plan living space

Two kinds of Fulbourn home

Fulbourn has unusually clear local evidence. Its village design guide notes the older village character and explains that Station Road and the residential estates built since the 1960s follow different layouts and building styles. It also observes that those later estates are gradually changing, and it discusses upgrades to doors and windows.

For us, that contrast is useful. It means we might be fitting to an older, less regular opening in the historic part of the village and to replacement windows on a later estate in the same week.

In older properties

We check how square the reveal is, the depth available and the condition of the frame. Roman blinds, pinch pleat curtains and café-style shutters are popular choices where people want a traditional feel.

On later estates

Where windows have been upgraded to uPVC, frame-mounted systems such as Perfect Fit blinds may be possible, subject to the frame. Roller blinds and vertical blinds are practical choices for wider openings.

If you are replacing windows

Because the design guide highlights window upgrades, it is worth saying: if new windows are on the way, it is usually better to measure for blinds after they are fitted. Frame depth and handle positions change what will fit.

Doors as well as windows

If your home has French doors or patio doors, they need a different approach from windows. Blinds must clear handles and, on inward-opening doors, move with the door. French door blinds fitted to each leaf are one answer; French door shutters are another, where there is room for the panels to open. For sliding doors, vertical blinds or panels that draw to one side keep the opening clear. We'll look at how your doors are used day to day before suggesting anything.

If you are unsure whether your home counts as part of the older village or a later estate, it doesn't matter; we simply measure what's there and advise on that basis.

Questions we get asked

We're replacing our windows. Should we wait before ordering blinds?

Usually, yes. Measuring after the new frames are in avoids problems with depth, handles and frame-mounted systems.

Can Perfect Fit blinds go on any uPVC window?

No. They depend on the frame and glazing bead profile, so we check compatibility at survey.
