Blinds, Shutters & Curtains in Ely
Ely's historic cathedral-city core sits alongside newer neighbourhoods on its edges. We can arrange a free home survey in Ely and recommend blinds, shutters or curtains to suit either kind of home.

Ely is a cathedral city with an extensive conservation area, and the Ely Masterplan describes its historic character as fundamental to the city's identity. Parts of the conservation area also have an Article 4 direction. At the same time, the city has continued to grow, with newer development around its edges.
That mix is why no two Ely surveys look alike.
Character homes in the historic city
In older properties, windows may be taller, narrower or less regular than modern ones, and occasionally shaped. When they are, we measure carefully and may suggest:
- full-height or shaped shutters built to the opening;
- interlined curtains for a fuller drape;
- Roman blinds for a tailored, traditional finish.
These are design choices; conservation-area rules are about external changes, and internal blinds and curtains aren't generally affected. If your home is listed, check with the council before fitting anything fixed.
Newer Ely homes
In more recent housing the questions are different. Is there room for a recess-fitted blind? Are the frames compatible with Perfect Fit? Would motorised blinds help with a tall stairwell window? We answer these on site.
Privacy in a busy city
Many Ely homes face the street directly or sit close to neighbours. Café-style shutters, sheers and Day & Night blinds all help, with different looks.
The showroom, just down the road
Our showroom is in Soham, a short drive south-east of Ely, at 7 Regal Lane. It's open Monday to Thursday until 4pm and Friday mornings; call ahead to check what's on display. Most Ely customers start with the free home survey, but it's easy to visit too.
Street-facing rooms in the city
For street-facing rooms in a busy city, many people want privacy during the day without losing the view entirely. Top-down, bottom-up pleated blinds cover the lower part of the window and leave the top open. Shutters with tilting louvres give similar control. For evenings, when lights are on inside, any sheer layer becomes less effective, so it helps to have something opaque as well.
